In early 1994
R.Hoffman and fellow songwriter Jerry Hughes were performing together in
a duet as a side project. By 1995 the duet had grown to a quartet and they
began to experiment with original ideas. By late 1995 the quartet had became
an octet and Hoffman decided to take the band into the studio to begin
recording a fun project that would be kept as a sort of memento and shared
between the members. That project was "Out of the Closet and into the Livingroom"
and what was to be a keepsake turned out to be a great success with undeground
fans throughout the area. Hoffman decided to duplicate 1000 copies onto
cassette and sell them at shows. That first press sold in two weeks and
was later duplicated onto CD. After more than 10 years, six independent
CD's, countless performances, awards, and accolades, the band still continues
to pack venues with their unique blend of old and new influences. |

The bands name
was actually coined by co founder R. Hoffman's youngest son Jacob. While
Hoffman recorded the debut release his brother George would babysit Jake
and at night when Hoffman would return from the studio he would be greeted
by the youngster whom would begin to refer to him as Uncle George but would
correct himself in mid sentence, "Uncle - Daddy". The original name was
to be Uncle Daddy and The Inbreds but was changed to The Family
Secret at the request of fellow bandmates. |
