8/14 - Indy Musicians from throughout the region gathered for Cynthia Wimmers' Jam For Democracy on Wednesday night at Hamilton, Ohio's Third St. Tap and Grille. The venue was filled with a literal who's who from the music scene including a rare acoustic performance from Rob Hoffman. Hoffman played a variety of materials from his side project catalogue including music from Uncle Daddy, Persona Non Grata and his recent solo effort Old Habits New Money. Other great musical highlights were covers from Leon Russell and Porno For Pyros as well as a rarely performed live "Misled" and "Fade To Black" which was a brilliant followup to an even more rare political statement from the musician. Several songs into the set R.H. paused for a moment to address the audience and opined on a recent statement request regarding the event from a local newspaper reporter. "He asked me about my politics and I simply replied I don't follow politics. I did however tell him that small gatherings of people are conducive to one of two things; positive change or complete anarchy. I'm for a little of both." The comment brought both laughter and a thunder of applause. Though Hoffman sat and faced the floor most of the set singing into a vintage microphone and occasionally nodding his head to show appreciation as the crowd applauded for each song we found the performance to be captivating. Hoffman says it will be a while before he does it again and that solo performances make him nervous. Well you could have fooled us Mr. H.
